The Sauna for Everyone event on 16 March invites discussion on the accessibility of sauna culture

You are warmly welcome to join the Sauna for Everyone event next Monday, 16 March 2026 from 16.00 to 17.30 in the meeting room at Tampere Swimming Centre, organised during the Tampere Anti-Racism Week. Come to discuss, listen and share your thoughts and experiences.

Sauna is an important place for many people in Tampere to relax and spend time together. We want to make shared sauna experiences feel natural and welcoming also for those who do not speak Finnish as their first language or whose roots are in other cultures or religions.

During the event, we will explore what kinds of practical guidance, information and support people may need to feel more comfortable joining public sauna sessions. We will also discuss how Tampere’s sauna culture can be made more accessible, multicultural and inviting as a place to meet others.

• Personal experience talk by a person who has moved to Finland
• The creators of the More Accessible Sauna guide introduce ways to consider different groups of sauna users / Femma Planning Oy & Seurasauna ry
• Tommi Liimatta, Lead Sports Instructor for the City of Tampere (Tampere Swimming Centre), talks about sauna practices and upcoming development steps
• A local sauna operator shares perspectives on Tampere’s sauna culture and its accessibility
• Visit Tampere presents the Sauna Capital of the World brand and public saunas as meeting points for locals and visitors

Group discussion

Together we will reflect on:

• How can we ensure the sauna is a safe place for everyone?
• How can everyone feel welcome to come as they are?
• What kinds of practices or solutions are needed to make joining shared sauna sessions easier?
