Multilingual info Mainio turns 15 – Open House on September 29

The City of Tampere's Multilingual info Mainio has been serving foreign-speaking customers in 10-16 languages to comprehensively promote integration, employment and well-being for 15 years, since 2008. Mainio welcomes everyone to celebrate its 15 years of advising at the Open House event. Meet native language advisors, learn about their integration work, participate in the Multilingual Quiz, and try your luck with the Wheel of Fortune!

Join us at the Open House event on Friday, September 29 at International House Tampere, Rautatienkatu 10, to learn about how Multilingual info Mainio works. Mainio is an advisory service that assists foreign-speaking customers across Pirkanmaa in various languages. All advisors also speak Finnish. You can receive advice and information on everyday matters such as residency permits, citizenship issues, living in Finland, work, study, healthcare, and hobbies. The service is free of charge for all customers.

Multilingual advising is crucial in promoting integration and reducing social inequality between migrants and the majority population. It serves as a vital tool in ensuring that services are accessible to those who are not proficient in the Finnish language. While Mainio does not offer translation services, the advisors also serve as linguistic and cultural guides to individuals who have recently relocated to the country.

– The City of Tampere is committed to providing a native-language integrating service with a low threshold. Improving integration in the early stages and providing multilingual advice also contributes to workforce availability. In the coming years, even more, says Kristina Kemi, Service Manager at the Multilingual info Mainio.

What started as the ALMA project’s low-threshold information, advice, and guidance activities, have now become an important part of the city’s services and International House Tampere’s single service point. In addition to multilingual advising, Mainio coordinates anti-racism activities, participates in work to prevent segregation, and develops guidance and counselling services nationally.

The event is open to all and no pre-registration is required! Welcome!
