This Spring, we have piloted a generative AI tool within the English-language Talent Advisor service at International House Tampere. The project team—Heikki Hauskaviita, Max Hurri, Petri Pekkola, Henrik Aminoff, and Nick Cotton—developed a web-based tool designed to support career guidance while prioritizing privacy (no personal data is stored).

AI-powered support for career planning

The tool helps jobseekers clarify their professional identity by mapping their skills, education, and work experience. It then suggests relevant career paths, offering clearer direction for their next steps. For example, the tool can generate tailored career suggestions based on a user’s background and help identify transferable skills.

The Talent Advisor service currently offers job search support via video for internationals in the Tampere region and by email for other customers. Its flexible format made it an ideal platform for piloting this new AI-supported career guidance feature. Around 20 clients participated in the initial pilot phase.

Nick Cotton shares, “The services we offer remain human-centric, requiring the experience and emotional intelligence of a career coach—augmented by GenAI. Customer feedback has been positive and has helped us identify several areas for improvement.”

Heikki Hauskaviita adds, “This pilot gave us valuable insights into using GenAI responsibly and inclusively within our services. We are looking forward to scaling its use more widely over the next year.”

From pilot to broader implementation

The project was owned by International House Tampere’s Service Manager, Nuppu Suvanto, and the Service Director of International Employment, Recruitment and Integration services, Mari Taverne. Nuppu noted that the tool now supports our bookable online career coaching service for Talent customers available through the International House Tampere website. This service has already received positive feedback from customers.

Mari Taverne expressed her enthusiasm for the pilot’s results and her eagerness to see further innovations that enhance the customer experience. She stated, “This pilot also reflects International House Tampere’s broad commitment to digital innovation and inclusive service development.
